High Adventure is the place for older Scouts. It encourages personal growth, leadership, and team building skills, while challenging the Scout’s physical abilities.
Climbing Merit Badge: is a double afternoon session. Climbing Instructor Training for adults will also be offered each week. Please see the Climbing Director for exact requirements.
Project COPE: Scouting’s Challenging Outdoor Personal Experience is a combination of physical and mental challenges, beginning with simple initiative games, and building towards our “high wire” course, with its 375-foot zipline. Other special opportunities for COPE participants include Black Powder Rifle shooting, repelling, and a hike through the Water Caves on Agua Caliente Creek. This is also a double session activity, in the mornings.
We recommend this as a special activity for older Scouts who have already been to camp several times. While there is no age requirement to participate in the COPE program, all participants must be approved by the COPE Director, based on their maturity and physical ability.
The Project COPE Schedule:
- Monday: The COPE program starts with the skill building: Initiative Games, followed by Low COPE activities including: The Wall, Artesian Beams, Nitro Crossing, Trust Fall, and Islands.
- Tuesday: COPE participants head to the Rifle Range to shoot black powder rifles. Come and see what creative targets we have selected this year.
- Wednesday: COPE participants head out to the 65-foot climbing rock to face the "Repelling Challenge."
- Thursday: The most challenging day, the day everyone has been looking forward to all week. The "30 feet in the air" High COPE course which starts with challenging climb up either a helicopter ladder or cargo net, proceeds to a cable monkey bridge, a two line traverse, a balance beam crossing, and the amazing 375 ft. zip line ending.
- Friday: All COPE participants, meet at Lake Virginia to venture to the Water Caves on Agua Caliente Creek. Participants will explore the mysteries of the Water Caves with the help of the COPE Staff. Caution: Participants will get wet! A perfect end to a challenging week.
