HIGH ADVENTURE and ROCK CLIMBING

This area is designed for the older Scouts, to encourage growth and leadership with team building skills, while challenging the Scout's physical abilities.  The Climbing Merit Badge is a double session afternoon Merit Badge.  Climbing Instructor Training for adults will be offered in the evenings starting Monday.

Project COPE is the other component to the High Adventure program.  Project COPE is a double session morning activity that runs Monday through Friday. There is No longer an age requirement to participate in the COPE program.  However, all participants must be approved by the director.

Age Requirement: (from the 2008 BSA National COPE Standards) Based on their maturity and physical coordination, participants younger than 13 years of age may undertake a few low-course activities and high-course events at the discretion of the Project COPE director. Participants are allowed to engage in progressively more challenging activities, depending upon their successful completion of less challenging ones. Project COPE directors, low-course directors, and instructors should recognize that younger participants may not get the full value of the COPE experience. A high level of maturity is needed for Project COPE events that require spotting or belaying so that participants are able to understand the safety implications of the experience.

The COPE Schedule:

Monday: The COPE program starts with the skill building  Initiative Games followed by Low COPE activities including: The Wall, Artesian Beams, Nitro Crossing, Trust Fall, and Islands.

Tuesday: COPE participants head to the Rifle Range to shoot black powder rifles.  Come and see what the targets will be this year.

Wedensday: COPE participants head out to the 65-foot climbing rock and to face the "Repelling Challenge."

Thursday: The most challenging day, the day everyone's been waiting for all week.  The "30ft. in the air" High COPE course which includes a monkey bridge, a balance beam, and the 365 ft. zip line ending.

Friday: All COPE participants, both morning and afternoon sessions, meet at Lake Virginia to venture to the Water Caves.  Participants will explore the mysteries of the Water Caves with the help of the COPE Staff.  Caution: Participants will get wet!  A perfect end to a challenging week.
