Grace Hoag

Grace Hoag (1870-1970) was a well-known philanthropist, and a longtime resident of Newport Beach. She and her family founded the Hoag Foundation, which helped support many local groups. The foundation also founded Hoag Memorial Hospital, in memory of Mrs. Hoag’s husband, George Hoag Sr., who died in 1948.

Grace Hoag and the Hoag Foundation were among the first supporters of the proposed new Lost Valley Scout Reservation in 1959, donating part of the money for its purchase. Mrs. Hoag took a personal interest in the new camp during its development, and was always ready to support the work financially.

In 1981, in honor of her family’s many contributions, Camp Anza was renamed Camp Grace.
